What Have I Been Reading Lately? 05.04.10

Do you ever find it hard to get through a book?

Sometimes, when I get to about the half-way point of a book I find it hard to go on. It usually happens when the book has been taking me a while to get through.

At the moment, I'm halfway through The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas. I'm finding it hard going. Mainly because the characters are so unlike-able. I just didn't feel like reading it last night, so i decided it was time for a Harry Potter fix. It's been a while now since I've read one, so I decided to read The Deathly Harrows again. I should finish it tonight.

I think part of the problem also, is the fact that I have read some really good books lately, and pretty much anything I've read since I finished The Book Thief a couple of weeks ago has not been anywhere near as good as that. It's a hard act to follow.

Does this happen to you? Are there certain books that you find harder to read than others? What are currently reading right now?

I can't even count the amount of books I've half read! Re-reading Harry Potter is great, I did that late last year and it was fantastic :)

Happens to me all the time and is sometimes the cause of me slowing down towards the end of a truly fabulous read cos I just don't want it to end.

I think on First Tuesday Book Club they said that although it's a great read, the characters in, "The Slap" aren't endearing at all.

You'll get your mojo back I'm sure. :)

I know that feeling. I still have not finished Stephen King's Lisey's Story, and I've tried three times.

Happens to me all the time too. Even with authors who normally I love to read. My hubby often comments on the books in the bookcase still with a bookmark in them. Maybe I will get back to them one day. And I am with you Lori - I love SK but Lisey Story - about 1/3 and now on the shelf for ever.

Happens to me sometimes. But if someone gives me a book as a gift I will read all of it. I found "THe Children's Book" really hard to read until at least over half way through for example. I find it harder to start certain books.

Currently reading the time traveller's wife again.

I loved the Book Thief, have now read it 3 times and it gets better every time. May I recomment "The Road" by Corman McArthy and/or "The Luminous Life of Lily Aphrodite"? Both beautifully written books that you won't want to put down.
I had a lot of trouble earlier this year finding good books that didn't leave me bored half way through. I didn't read a full book for almost three months, however, when I flew to America in March, my TV was broken and I had to read, so I did and now I'm back into it.

I just read a book written by three survivors of "The Children of God" cult, it's called "Not without my Sister" - a very sad but brave story there.
