Isn't it funny how a quote from a man who died almost 84 years ago can still be so damn relevant to the political landscape of 2013.

The two major parties in this country are a joke. The Liberal/National Party is no real alternative to this farce of a Labor Party, both characterised by ridiculous PR campaigns (Rooty Hill anyone), infighting, backstabbing and general childishness.

I'm a swing voter. Always have been, always will be. I will never be a card-carrying member of any political party. When I go to vote in a state or federal election the only thing I think about is what my local candidate has on his or her agenda for my local area. The end.

Because if I voted based on who the leader of each party was, and the federal or state agendas they carry, then I wouldn't bother voting at all, I would just waste my vote. But I can't do that. I am lucky enough to have the right to vote, the freedom to vote, and I won't throw that right away, no matter how much the politicians and their games piss me off!

The thing that annoys me most is how out of touch the politicians are, both state and federal, they really have no idea, and the only thing they care about is getting re-elected.

Because they only care about being re-elected no one has the balls to actually do anything, make any meaningful changes or policies, actually invest in the future of this country and make a few decision that are for the good, but perhaps not the most popular decisions.

Part of the problem is that being a politician is a full time career these days with a pretty cushy pay scale and benefits. If politicians actually had to live and work in the real world you can bet your bottom dollar that things would change, and for the better, a lot quicker than they do now.

Our hospitals would be so much better equipped, teachers, police, firies, ambos would get the pay and benefits they deserve, heck we might even get some decent fucking infrastructure and roads and trains that work!

Rural areas would have more access to services that are crucial. And there would be more support for those with special needs and mental illnesses. People who genuinely need help would be able to access it and those rorting the system would be weeded out and made to pay their way through life like the rest of us.

I think I live in a dream world where things might actually be different one day. I don't know what it will take for change to happen within politics, maybe nothing will, maybe it will just get worse.

At the end of year 12 I was voted Most Likely to be Australia's First Female PM. Well, obviously that's not gonna happen, but the more I think about it the more I feel like maybe one day in the future, once I've finished having babies, I might just have to follow in my Grandmother's footsteps and get in to local government and do my best to shake things up and fight for the change that is so sorely needed.

As long as no-one ever holds what I've written on this blog against me that is! Lol!
