Linky Lovin' Friday {5th September 2014} // Blogging

So this week I've spent a lot of time reading all of the wrap-up posts from people who attended the Problogger Training Event last weekend. One of the awesome things about the internet in general, and Twitter in particular, is that even if you're not at the event, you can still follow along and learn some awesome stuff.

So I thought I would do a little round-up of all of the PBEvent posts I've been reading and the ones I've really loved. The great thing is that a lot of the speakers have posted versions of their presentations online for attendees and non-attendees alike to access and learn from. If like me you weren't there on the weekend, then you will want to check out those links in particular.

So here's what I've been reading and loving from PBEvent 2014...

Fitting it all in | Finding Time by Maxabella Loves

It goes without saying that Bron gives good blog, and while reading through the tweets from her session, it's one of the ones I'm most sad that I missed. Thankfully she is distilling her knowledge in to 3 blog posts, the first of which I have linked here. If you struggle to fit everything in that you want to do then  you'll want to read this post.

The PBEvent Resource Page of Awesome from Socially Sorted

I discovered Donna and Socially Sorted about a month ago on Google Plus and since then I have been going through her website and soaking up it's goodness. She shares all of the stuff she presented at PBEven in this post and let me tell you, there is definitely gold in there! Be warned though that it can lead you off in to a rabbit hole of goodness, so make sure you have enough time to click through to all of the links and info she shares. I promise you, it's more than worth it!

Build an online community that you love by Nikki from Styling You

For me, blogging is all about the community. I've met some awesome people through blogging, people that I consider to be good friends, not just online, but offline as well. If you want to know more about building an awesome community on your blog then this is the place to start.

What Bloggers need to know about SEO in 2014 by Rand Fishkin

I saw a lot of great tweets coming from this session and I was super excited to see that Rand has uploaded his presentation slides to SlideShare. SEO is something that I have struggled with for a long time, and it was only after reading Nicole Avery from Planning with Kids Blog Boost eBook (affiliate link) that I started to understand it a bit better and start using it in my posts. Rand's presentation dives a little deeper and it's a must for anyone who wants to get there head around this very important tool for bloggers.

Finding My Way (lessons from problogger '14) by Style for a Happy Home
The blog will be 15 months old next week. What a perfect time to realise that it doesn’t need to be like anyone else’s blog, but for it to carve a little space of its own. All of this may be oversharing, but it’s my blog and I’ll overshare if I want to! ;) Here’s to a new adventure!
I really, really loved this post from Danielle. She says a lot of things that I have actually been feeling on and off all year. I set myself a few blogging goals, and while I have achieved those goals with 4 months to spare, it's left me feel a bit deflated, and seen me checking out my stats too often and comparing myself to others. At the beginning of the year I hardly ever checked stats and or looked at other peoples, now it's a way too regular thing and I've decided to not look at my stats at all for the next month and just focus on doing what I want to do and writing whatever it is that I'm moved to write.

The things I learned at Problogger (and they're not what you might expect) by Renee from About a Bugg
This is not my first ProBlogger conference, in fact it’s my third. There’s also been some other blogging and social media conferences over the past four-odd-years in the life of About a Bugg. You could say I now get at least the basics of blogging.
Which is probably why these lessons surprised me the most.
As the title suggests, this is not your usual Problogger wrap up filled with lots of gushing praise and lists of things and dreams and goals. I like the fact that Renee has realised she doesn't want to monetise her blog, and also, the eye-rolling at some inspirational speakers? I am so there with you!

ProBlogger conference 2014 - my top 5 lessons by Emily from You Learn Something New Every Day
I don't want to do things just because I CAN. I want to do things because I WANT TO.
Em's post is great because not only does it have her trademark wit and sensibility, she added great visuals too, and I am a sucker for a few good visual quotes!

Bonus Link...
While not technically a ProBlogger wrap-up, this video by the husband of the lovely Robyn from Mrs. D plus 3, about what happens on a Saturday morning when Mum's away and Dad is left in charge is just the best. Do yourself a favour and go and watch it now. It will put a smile on your dial.

So there you have it, the posts I've been loving reading from the ProBlogger 2014 Conference. Now more than ever am I determined to get there in 2015, if for nothing more than the socialising and catching up with bloggy mates. That is after all why I blog!

What have you been reading this week? Hit me up with your links in the comments.

ProBlogger sounds like it was amazing. I followed along from my coffee table at home but I am loving the tips and reflections being posted about it this week. Have a great weekend!

I really loved Colour Me Anna's post, spoke so loudly to my introverted heart.

Thanks for these links, I've got my morning reading sorted out now!

Great read and the links have been a nice start to my day!

For me Problogger was all about the socialising and making friends, and weirdly, spending time in the hotel room writing my book (part 1 coming soon, by the way). I didn't learn all that much, to tell the truth, and I didn't really come away from it inspired. But coming off the back of last year's event, which I found to be SO amazing, that may be an unfair comparison! Kx

I need a holiday to find the time to action all my problogger ideas!!!

I've read so many problogger links this week but I really want to check out Rand's post. Once bubs asleep I'm there!

Thanks for those links from bloggers. I've only read a couple of those. I will have to check them out.

LOVE LOVE this link up and not just because I have a tiny feature!! I made so many notes at Pro Blogger that it's hard to know where to start with them. I have just read all these posts in the last hour and I feel all inspired all over again. Thanks lovely xx

Thanks for including me in the round up! Glad to hear I was able to provide a slightly different view x
Kylie Purtell said…
I'm sorry I missed you! Great round up. Thank you!

Awesome. Lots of good reading for the weekend.. Thanks x

Thanks so much for including me. Community is key!

You are right we were totally channeling each other ;) Some more great links for me to check though thanks chick and OMG Robyn's video made me homesick even though my kids were sitting next to me on the couch when I watched it xx

Max Markson seems to burn through his clients pretty quickly - I don't think he's grooming any of them for the long haul. This doofus is just more grist for the Markson mill. The new Corey Worthington. :)
Kylie Purtell said…
Naw, thanks for including me! It's funny, because I don't usually include that many (any) visuals. It was just SO text heavy without them.
Kylie Purtell said…
P.S sorry for the lack of comments usually. Your comments don't load when I'm on my computer. But I'm on an iPad right now. HELLO DISQUS! And rest assured I'm reading.

I can't wait until that tosser actually has a tribe of kids himself. Ha! There's some karma for ya!
Kylie Purtell said…
Ooohh I love your fiestiness! Funnily enough, I just posted about this guy tonight as well. LOL. Rule number one: Don't piss off mums. Rule number two: Don't piss off mummy BLOGGERS.
Kylie Purtell said…
And PS, I felt a bit sorry for him. He seems like a sweet, genuine kid who is a bit naive and said some stupid stuff that no doubt his agent was wringing his hands about.
Kylie Purtell said…
I have been living under a rock and have no idea who this tosser is. Now I do and he is very worthy of your award!! So much I could say here but will bite my tongue!!
Kylie Purtell said…
I just never click the click-bait. I hope he enjoyed his 15 minutes of infamy. x

I hadn't heard of this guy either, but thanks for helping me feel a little less guilty. I get so sick of "eat right and exercise". It's a bit like saying, just clean the house top to bottom every day, work full time and do a Masters by correspondence. Sure it can be done, but it's far easier to say.
Kylie Purtell said…
Thanks for including me Kylie - I hope you managed to scramble back out of the rabbit hole! haha. I have been going down many today (blog posts from PBEvent). Great wrap - thanks!
Kylie Purtell said…
PS Can I quote you on the Rabbit Hole for a presentation - I love it (SA country girl here - rabbit hole would be a great way of proving a point I have for a big conference soon - I'll quote you!)
Kylie Purtell said…
Absolutely you can! It was the best of rabbit holes, I still have sites bookmarked to go back and read again! So much good stuff, thank you for sharing!
Kylie Purtell said…
Awesome thanks! I just got sick of wondering if I had remembered all the bits and pieces I want to tell people so a resource page is great for helping them (and me) to relax and not worry about detail - as it is all there. Totally worth doing, I reckon! And glad to hear that it is appreciated!
Kylie Purtell said…
It was a great post mate, you definitely nailed it with the visuals!
Kylie Purtell said…
Me too! Especially the trying to dress a toddler part!
Kylie Purtell said…
No worries Bron, thanks for sharing!
Kylie Purtell said…
Definitely next year for me, maybe we will run in to each other...
Kylie Purtell said…
Thank you so much for sharing, there was some really great stuff in there x
Kylie Purtell said…
No worries, I hope you enjoyed them xx
Kylie Purtell said…
Oh I wish I was there, sadly I didn't make it this year and had to live vicariously through the hashtag! Next year for sure x
Kylie Purtell said…
I loved that it wasn't all gushy ad kept it real. Love your work x
Kylie Purtell said…
That's the great thing about the presenters sharing their talks online afterwards, the ones who didn't get to go can feel like they didn't totally miss out, and the ones that went can get excited all over again!
Kylie Purtell said…
It's definitely good reading material x
Kylie Purtell said…
It's definitely worth a look x
Kylie Purtell said…
I felt like that after DPCon, there was so many ideas running through my mind!
Kylie Purtell said…
It was great to read your perspective, and to be honest, I think the thing I was most bummed about missing was all the social stuff, coz let's face it, with most of the presenters putting their talks online, I haven't missed out to much in that regard.
Kylie Purtell said…
Excellent, glad you enjoyed them x
Kylie Purtell said…
I haven't read that one, I will have to check it out, thanks!
Kylie Purtell said…
Thanks Kaz. It's great isn't it, we may not have been there but we got to still enjoy and learn from it afar.
