Tosser Trophy awarded on behalf of all the Fat, Lazy Mums out there // Ranty McRanterson
Oh no he didn't!?!
Oh yes he did. I'm not sure in which dimension this dickwad thinks that shaming Mums is the best way to motivate them and make them feel good about themselves, but he's obviously been listening to Max Markson too long!
Yes, we should all try to eat less and exercise more. Taking care of ourselves as Mums is obviously going to benefit everyone in our families.
But calling Mums fat and lazy, and basically saying that having a baby is no excuse for not doing those things is a shithead move. It doesn't make you a great motivator or the personal trainer I want to employ, it makes you a tosser of the highest order.
As if Mums don't have enough to feel shit about, we have some young, childless, wannabe-famous fuckwit shaming Mums about making excuses.
You know what mate? I'm overweight. Have been for a while. Since before having kids in fact. I can tell you that losing weight is not exactly easy.
Oh yes, we all know the basics of it. Eat less, move more, expend more calories than you put in. But as anyone who has struggled with their weight will tell you, it's not that simple.
Losing weight is about more than simple science and mechanics. At it's core, losing weight, or not losing weight is a mental issue. It's an emotional issue. It's so wrapped up in our mental state and sense of self, that to simplify it by saying people just don't care enough or are simply lazy is at best, misguided and uneducated, and at worst, just plain ol' fucked up.
I know from experience that I am best motivated to lose weight and look after myself when I feel good about myself. When I feel good about myself then I want to feel even better and I find it much easier to take the steps to make that happen.
Feeling good about myself is so much more than how I look. You know when I feel good about myself? When I've had the chance to have a shower and wash my hair and straighten it so it's not a giant frizzball perched atop my noggin.
I feel good about myself when I've had a decent night's sleep that didn't involve getting up to the baby 3 times, in between going in to soothe and settle the toddler who keeps waking up screaming from night terrors.
I feel good about myself when I find a clean shirt that doesn't have some weird, random stain hiding on it. I feel good about myself when someone tells me that despite the tough times, I'm actually doing ok as a Mum. It's these things that make me feel good about myself and motivate me to try a little harder, it motivates me to want to take better care of myself.
When I feel like shit about myself, when I feel fat and lazy, all I want to do is hide away and eat all the food.
Yes, I know that that is the exact opposite of the way to feel good about myself, but that's the mind. It's a fucked up thing. It makes people think all manner of ridiculous, untrue things about themselves.
I've got a tip for you Mr. Douche Canoe, and I'll give it to you for free...
If you want to help and motivate Mums to eat well, exercise and lose weight, don't shame them with words like fat, lazy and excuse makers. Make them feel good about themselves. Tell them how amazing you think they are for sacrificing their body for 9 months to grow a human being. Tell them that they are worth the effort it will take to get in shape. Tell them that you know it's not easy, and that they will feel like giving up, especially when they are sleep deprived, hungry and haven't showered for days because they have a baby hanging off them 24/7.
Tel them that in the end, it's not about what they look like, but how they feel. That moving will make them feel better. It will make the world look a little brighter. That the days of sleep deprivation and having no time for themselves won't last forever. Tell them that they are doing a good job just surviving the long days.
Or better yet, put your money where your mouth is and offer to look after their kids for them, clean their house, drop off some healthy, home cooked meals for them and then shut the fuck up!
