What a week! It's absolutely flown by, which is the reason this post is late (compared to usually being scheduled to go live at midnight). I had my first week of Tafe and it was great! The first day was really cruisey. We spent the morning in the computer lab having a play with Photoshop and getting to know our teacher Sally better. She showed us some of her photos and they are brilliant. It's really inspiring to see her work and the kinds of things she has shot, gives me motivation to try new things.
Wednesday we headed in to the studio for the first time, and despite the fact we didn't get to actually take any images, we learnt a lot about the studio and how it's used, as well as the different kinds of lighting we have access to in the studio. Our teacher for camera skills is Craig, and wow, hearing about his career was really cool. He's done some amazing stuff, from being a Photo re-toucher in the time before Photoshop, working as a hairdresser and hair photographer, to being a photographer in the RAAF.
We learnt about basic exposure elements and I realised how much I know in my head but can't actually put in to words! He would ask a question and I'd be madly thinking about how it was that I actually do that and how to explain it. It's funny how you start doing things but when asked how you do it you can't actually say! I'm really looking forward to learning from Craig and getting a chance to put those lessons in to practice in the studio.
I tell you what though, I was so exhausted by the end of Wednesday, I am so out of practice with getting up super early and being out of the house by 7:30am! Punky is so self-sufficient these days, and despite the fact that she is awake at 6am most mornings, she is content to pay in her room or the lounge room with her toys or iPad. Zee is a late sleeper, so I usually don't get out of bed until she wakes up about 8am. I didn't realise how easy I had it until I had to get up at 6with Punky to start getting ready!
I haven't had a huge amount of time for blogging and reading this week, but I did manage to read a few things around the www that caught my eye, and I've listed them for you below. They run the gamut from interesting science to practical creativity and everything in between. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did...
No Time for Bats to Rest Easy via the New York Times
How to Read and Comment on an Article at Kiki & Tea
Is it worth it? by Wholly Listening
How to make your own art on your photos by Fat Mum Slim

So that's what I've been reading this week. Have you read anything good? Share the links with me in the comments so I can check them out.
