5 reasons I'm sad winter is about to end | Life
I was struggling to come up with something to write about for today, so I put the call out to my lovely #teamIBOT peeps for some prompts & suggestions last night. The lovely Claire from Life on Wallace came back with the prompt "reasons you're pleased winter is nearly over" and I thought I could work with that.
The thing is, I'm not pleased winter is nearly over. I'm anything but pleased, actually! The only thing I have to look forward to about winter being over is our cruise in a few weeks time. Other than that, no good can come of winter ending!!!
Why? Let me tell you...
5. The return of snakes
After my little experience with a snake in my garage/laundry earlier this year, I am really not looking forward to the snakes getting on the move again. Sure we've cleaned up the backyard a lot more since then, but that just makes me think the garage/laundry will be an even more attractive place to hang out when it's scorching hot!
4. Wearing my hair out without getting a sweaty head & neck
I don't wear my hair out all that much. It's very thick, and so when its even just a little bit warm and I wear it out my neck and scalp sweat like crazy! No thank you!
3. Not being able to wear all my lovely coats & cardis
I love wearing my winter coats, jackets, and cardigans. I have quite a lot of them and they are so comfortable and snuggly. Plus, when you're carrying a bit of extra weight it's nice to be able to comfortably disguise my muffin top, something that becomes a little harder in any other season but winter!
2. Being able to walk around outside in the sunshine without melting or losing 10 litres of sweat
The spring/summer months just seem to get hotter and hotter every year, and I for one am not looking forward to the prospect of another summer like the last. The older I get the more I love the cooler weather and seasons. Considering we really only seem to get 2 cold months and then just plain old hot for the rest of the year, I wish winter would stick around a little longer. Alas, this Saturday is forecast to be 26, and so I guess I need to resign myself to the fact that I'll be sweating profusely at even just the thought of walking outside in the weeks to come!
1. Golden Hour is actually before dinner time & not when the kids should be going to bed
Hands down this is one of the best advantages of winter for a photographer of kids. I can take photos at that most fabulous of times, Golden Hour, and still have the kids fed & off to bed at a decent hour. In the warmer months, and especially once daylight saving starts, the magical Golden Hour doesn't happen until right about the time the kids should be eating dinner or getting into bed. So winter is much more accommodating when I want to take advantage of that dreamy, soft, golden light!
I will admit, the warmer seasons aren't all bad, and I do quite enjoy daylight saving and being able to go and spend plenty of time down by the river without worrying about getting caught in the dark. And in all fairness, the winters in Sydney aren't exactly freezing (bar the odd sub-zero night out here at the foot of the mountains) but even on the cold days I do love it.
If only I could have all that extra daylight saving light with the cooler weather I'd be a happy woman. Instead, I'll just have to start preparing myself for the return of 40+ degree days!
What's your favourite season? Are you glad winter is almost over?

Things to love about winter... it's dark when we head home from family dinner... meaning the girls might fall asleep in the car! |

Zee kindly demonstrating how I feel about winter ending (and this is also how she actually feels about not being pushed high enough on the swing!) |
